I heard that Model 1 bolts are prone to breakage, is it true?

I wouldn't say they are prone to breakage, but for an extra $30, you can have a bolt/bolt carrier group that is not prone to breakage - Bravo Company or LMT.

No problems with any of mine,  but I'll bet somebody has broken one sometime.  I saw something a while back about their 7.62x39 bolts breaking after 4 or 5k rds.  I run 3 mod.1's in that cal with no breakage, I do have a spare bolt just in case.

Had mine break @ rnd# 705. Bought an m-p tested bolt from one of the vendors here & have almost another thousand on that one with no problems. Guess it's just one of them thangs.

It's just someone grinding an ax.
As a gunsmith, (and knowing a lot of other gunsmiths, as well as military and police armoriors,)  the one brand that I have had more experience with bolt breaking on than any other is Colt.  In my openion, it's because more Colt's have been used for longer than other brands, and many by Law Enforcement, so they have gotten more use.

But we don't hear horror stories about "Colt bolts are prone to break".

None of them are "prone to break" in normal use, in my experiance

All AR bolts can and do break with enough use, but as a rule you are going on their 2nd or 3rd barrel by that time.

LMT or BCM for the bolt carrier group. Spend the extra cash when it comes to these parts.

It's just a simple fix buy and extra bolt from The Bravo Company this is the one I keep handy.

M1S = POT METAL

Everything they sell is cheap for a reason. Sourced from who knows where for the lowest possible price. Lot of factory seconds and rejects too.

Got any proof that they make bolts out of pot metal?

I'm not their biggest fan, but that's a load of BS.

From what I've gotten before, I'd guess their parts are mostly DPMS.

My proof is my eyeballs and the pot metal junk they've seen in person from M1S multiple times. I'm not here to provide you with scientific evidence for your benefit. I'm making a statement based on what I know.

Ironic given the very subject of this thread, also one member had a bolt break at 700 rounds in this thread. That's consistent with what I've seen in person, and multiple testimonies here on AR15.com going back many years. Ask him for proof.

What parts are "pot metal"- that you know about?

So basically, you know nothing.

Well, I don't think it's "Pot Metal".  It may not be as good as some others, but I'm sure they are getting them from the same suppliers as some others.

With that said.  I'd invest a little more money, and get a known, quality bolt.  Model 1 bolts maybe be quality, but it's just not known.  I'd prefer to go with what is known.  If you have one, and it works.  Great.  Keep it until it doesn't work, but keep a spare from one of the better known vendors.

I don't give a shit if that's not good enough for you. I don't care if your POS bolt breaks. There are penalties in life for being ignorant.

Some pretty sycophantic M1S apologists around here. Must have hit a nerve or something. What do they require? $100,000 in scientific metallurgic testing equipment to satisfy them

Enjoy your 1,000rd life M1S bolts.

LOL. Scroll up to where I advised against using M1S bolts.

I run LMT or BCM bolt carriers in all my guns.

Doesn't change the fact that you're pulling "facts" out of thin air and have nothing to back it up. Do you even know what pot metal is?
