You mean "Carbon Grenade" I would never own one..More of a novelty, than a SHTF bang stick IMHO.

Do you own one or are you going by what others have said?  Just curious.

Never owned or shot one but I handled one a couple of weeks ago at the gun store. It was very light ( the purpose I guess) but felt fragile to me. I haven't read on here all of the stories of failures/sucesses because I am not interested in owning one but just got the idea that it was just a novelty gun.

Heck, I'm curious too.

I own 13 bushmaster's rifles and lowers and would hate to think that as an ARFCOM
Industry Partner they (Bushmaster) would be manufacturing and selling "toys" and merely novelty firearms.

I thought that the cracked lower problems were already addressed by Bushmasters new production and QA. There are threads in this forum discussing this. What the fuck do I know.

It's funny to read the many posts of folks wanting a lighter AR15 platform, spending hundreds of dollars on lighter barrels, rails, magazines...and when the opportunity presents itself with innovation they underestimate the concept entirely....specially if it's not part of the mainstream.

If one doesn't have the same boring shit as everyone else then it must be a "novelty".

For the fuckers who just have a few guns may be fine but I have almost every firearm platform out there in the market and find myself listening to the same shit about every gun in every gun forum.

IT'S PRETTY FUCKED UP...

Polymer firearms are a novelty!!!! They will NEVER become an industry standard!!!!

Now that they're made by Bushmaster, and the internals were improved a bit, I don't see how they couldn't take alot of punishment if they needed to.

Edit for the 97 series: I hear the quick-detach compensator CAN come off in long strings of firing, but it's not huge problem.

i LUV MINE.  No problems even after many 1000's rounds later.

fdkay,
That Carbon, PMAGS, Glocks, Springfields, FNs, polymer framed pistols, etc will never meet "your" industry standard is not important, IMO.
What's important, to many of us, is that there is a huge demand and market for polymers...
...attracting new gun-owners to the industry.
For some of us that's what's important.

but will they take a fair amount of abuse?

Mine and several other members Carbon guns seem to hold up well enough with use. Some have had problems, mine has run fine(although the muzzle break does pop off with rapid fire ).
Bottom line mine works well enough I'm keeping it.
9/23/2008 6:53:18 AM EDT

do you have a pic of how the muzzel brake is able to pop off.
9/23/2008 7:45:14 AM EDT
[#17]
My Vortex have never popped out of my SBR.

But on my next cycle at the range I'll try 5 30 round mags and rapid fire to check this too. If it happens I'll just make my threaded adapter permanent and problem resolved.

Yes in my fair amount of firing, i can say that they will.

OK, I've got one of these beasties also.  It is light, it is well balanced and I don't trust it as far as I can throw it...............

Now with that said, my main issues are:
1. The bolt/recoil assembly does not give me confidence.  The recoil spring is really limp and the "carbon fiber" in high wear areas is starting to fray/delaminate.
2. We are not talking polymer technology of the caliber of PMAGS or GLOCKS.  If you treat it like a PMAG or a GLOCK it is going to break structurally.

The above is my opinion from use and abuse and a lot of teardowns and cleanings.

woofe

Glocks don't break structurally...............................they explode.
Just kidding!

But I trust them...I own 6 Glocks and carry one of them some of the time.

I apologize if I misunderstood you.
Your right, in restrospect, it's pretty funny.
I just find myself on "automatic pilot" defending every freaking gun and accessories these guys talk about in this and every other gun forum. I just would hate that potential new gun owners, reading these forums, would be discouraged to go out and buy a gun.
We need more people for the cause.
