I need help with my M4! I have a CMMG M4LE

It has run fine until recently. I just started reloading. On my last trip (on a previous trip to the range it ran fine on my reloads) to the range my rifle started to malfunction.  I was using a 20 round polymer mag. I inserted the mag fired a couple rounds and then I had a miss feed. The bolt wasn't closed all the way and the round was stuck at a funny angle. I think it tried to feed two rounds at once. So I pulled the mag out and held the bolt open and dropped out the miss fed round. After that whenever I put a mag in it will feed the first round properly and the second round will miss feed and sometimes it strips two rounds from the mag at the same time.

This happens with reloaded ammo and commercial rounds.

When I broke the weapon down for cleaning I noticed wear on the extractor a shiny spot on the top left side. I will include a picture. Also inside the upper I noticed another shiny spot. I will include a picture.

I would appreciate any help!

Sorry I don't take very good photos

might be short stroking. put 1 round in a known GOOD magazine, chamber that round and fire the rifle. The bolt should lock back on the empty mag every time. Try this 5-6 times.

I take it your rifle is propery lubed good and wet?

If your bolt fails to lock back it could be poor/weak ammo, gas problems. Check your gas key bolts, bolt gas rings. Theres a good sticky around here that will give proper malfunction checks and detailed cleaning of the bolt/carrier.

More info always helps to trouble shoot a problem such as the rifles round count is it 30 or 3000? brand of magazine? there are probably 3-4 types of polly mags out there, some not so good. Brand of commercial ammo used?

Double feeds are almost always mag related..try a good GI mag and see.

exactly . mag problem, resting rifle on mag. also, There is a very small chance it could be a weak buffer spring, too light buffer , causing jarr off of rounds from over gassed rifle and hot loads.

Sounds very much like a mag problem. Does it do this with all your mags, or just one?

This is the reason I number all my mags.

Thanks for the responses!

I wanted to give a bit more info:

I have put about 8-900 rounds through the rifle which includes a couple hundred rounds of Federal (the stuff that comes with 200 rounds in a square box), 500 rounds of Wolf ammo mostly Wolf Military Classic with polymer coating and lastly 30 40 handloads.

I have 4 mags, 2 30 rounders (never used) and 2 - 20 round (polymer) mags that I always used. The brand is Pro Mag.

I will take it to the range and see if it's short stoking by firing one round and seeing if it locks open.

Also it's hard to see in the pics but I have a definite wear mark on the extractor and on the upper receiver that corresponds to the extractor.

Also this is my first Ar15 type rifle (newb) and I have had it for about a year.

Sounds like mag issues....what type of mags are the two 30 rounders and does it do it when you use those mags as well? The polymer Pro Mags might be the problem. The only Polymer mags that I would trust would be the MagPul PMags.

I'd probably pick up a couple of NHMTG 20 rounders and give them a run. Check for short stroking and read up on trouble shooting the rifle. Don't be bashful with the lube either.
