Hey all, So I am making a SHTF rifle...and living in NY this has lead me to seek out and find a pre-ban because otherwise I'm operating under ban rules.... So, once this colt sporter arrives I plan to get a flattop....It's basically the only logical way I can figure out how to get a flattop pre-ban compatable rifle so I can have a bayolug and FH....along with flattop mounted optics..... what are your opinions/preference about optics for <500yards...... what type of flattop upper should I install? (brand/where to buy it) Am i correct in saying I need a converter pin for the lower to work with a new upper? I want a foregrip as well.... cash wise with the used preban costing me 1k.....if i sell the A2 upper that should give me some extra funds but I'm not sure how much I would get for it and want to keep the total rifle under 1750 (off topic but anyone have a mossberg 500 cruiser because I'm looking to pick of one of those too with my funds and would like some opinions on em) Thanks guys |
As for optics that is very user specific and you have a plethora of options. Some popular choices include Aimpoint, Millet Dot, Eotech, Super Sniper scope and on the higher end the Acog & Numerous derivatives of Leupold scopes (1-4x20, 3-9x36, 3.5-10x40 etc) I have used most of them at one time and the only one thats never left my rifle is my Leupold 1.5-5x20 M4 SPR Reticle in a Larue Mount. I have found it to be the most versatile and easiest to use across multiple shooting distances & scenarios. You would want an A3 upper. Any Mil-Spec manufacturer would be fine. Mega, Stag, RRA, White Oak Armament, LMT, etc. In regards to vertical foregrips, again you will have a multitude of choices. VFG's are redundant technology. Any one that will grip the rail and stay there will do. On the low end, you have the KAC & clones, in the middle you have Tango Down & Bobro's and on the high end, you have The Larue FUG. I have all 3 and im not sure that there is $80 worth of difference between my KAC clone that I got at the gunshow for $10 and the $90 that I paid for the FUG. My shooting style and preference is such that I dont use a VFG very much any more. The Tango Down stubby and Larue FUG stubby have served me well. Good luck with your build. |
