I hope its ok... I do it a lot to practice trigger control when I get bored....  

I was always told its not a problem what so ever, others may disagree... this is the net...

I've done tons of dry fire with no problems.  I'll continue to dry fire.

I'll dry fire mine occasionally, but I like to use a "Snap Cap" when I do.

You can get .223 caliber snap caps at most of your better gun stores.

Dry firing an AR IMO is ok. Oh wait.... Low post count....

Dry firing is ok on most all (if not all) centerfire firearms. Just don't dry fire if you have a .22 conversion kit in it, it will flatten the chamber face and cause feeding problems
