How do you get around the welded pin and flame supressor fact when changing the front grip on an M-4? I could only use a modular style grip I was told that completely broke down. I put a GG&G on mine that is great, but would like options... Tim |

The front handgrip cannot slide over the front sight, and the front sight cannot be removed because the flame supressor is permanently attached by a welded pin to make it legal. Thus, unless the handguard breaks apart, it will not slide over the sight assy....sorry for the shitty description. Tim |
Well, once you get that flash suppressor pinned on your options become kinda limited... You could, of course, remove the flash suppressor (dremel out the pin, screw off). You'll have to replace the flash suppressor and again have it permanently attached (see BATFE for the definition of the word "permanent"). You could cut the top off of the front site base, leaving with a home-made low-profile gas block. This is an option if you were going to replace your forearms with some kind of free-float setup that you could then mount a front sight on. If you want to cut off the GG&G forearm, a lot of KAC kit is drop-in... but I don't know if you have a standard barrel nut and front forearm cap. |
Are you certain as to whether you have a two-piece drop in system or a one-piece free float set up? If you have a two-piece system then you simply separate the two halves & remove & then replace with whatever other two-piece that you choose. If it's a free float (GG&G makes a free float?) you will have to cut off your pinned muzzle device in order to remove the FSB. There's a tacked how-to tutorial in the do it yourself for dummies thread in the forum titled build it yourself. |
