Have 16" midlength gas tube. Probably going with YM chrome bcg which is 1/2oz. heavier than standard carrier. Was considering Wolff 2x strength buffer spring-or not.

I know middy slows action a bit as does extra strength springs, heavy buffer(heavier carrier). This is my shtf build and reliability is a must. What combination of buffer weight and spring would be most reliable?

Any drawbacks to exra strentgh spings?

With a middy, I don't know if there's a real need for all those extra-strength springs, endine buffers etc.  It should run fine with standard spring/buffer.

I run mine with a full circle (auto) carrier, H buffer and standard carbine buffer spring.  No problems of any kind.

I see no reason to mess with it, IMHO.

I run my midlength SHTF carbine with M16 auto BCG, standard carbine buffer and standard carbine buffer spring, works great, I don't want to mess with it.

The only upgrade that I did to my bolt was an additional bolt extractor O-ring, I also did the same on my 20" rifle gas system, got my O-rings from Bravo Company and ADCO.

Thanks for input.
I thinking standard buffer as carrier weighs more(same difference as heavy buffer).
Not really interested in enidine, just thought i'd throw it out there rather than start another thread.

Consdidered auto carrier for even more weight-but don't want legal complications. My understanding is that it is not illegal, but it is stated that "even just one full auto part makes a m.g.

As far as extra power sprig i just feel maybee a little extra oomf when seatig bolt would ad to reliability, especially when dirty for eccessive firing.

Welcome and appreciate all input

I pretty sure a carbine buffer will work well for a midlength system.

YMMV

There is a downside to this. You're only considering what happens when the bolt closes. A stiffer spring means it takes more force to open the bolt all the way. A middy will have a lighter gas pulse which means a stiffer action spring could potentially cause failures. I have two 16" middies, both with standard action springs and factory Colt H buffers. Both rifles function perfectly.

Exactly the way I run my midlength and 20".  Never any problems.  I also run a standard carbine buffer and spring on my 20", because it has a CTR on it.

It is not illegal, even a little, to run a full circle bolt carrier.  Some ARs even ship with them, straight from the factory.

I used a heavier power spring from Larue, along with an H buffer.

I used both a RRA HBAR midlength (dirt cheap!) as well as a Denny's Operator Midlength (no so cheap...)

Shooting M-193 from Federal, Igman, and privi, no problems.  Doing reloads, I shot around 100 "starting load" rounds which are quite underpowered, and had no issues as well.

The midlength's gas impulse is weaker, but it is still stronger than the rifle's by a good deal, keep that in mind.  You will not have issues with stronger action springs and heavier buffers.  If you do, there is something else wrong, possible a loose gas key, etc.

Why the extra bolt extraction o-ring?

Can't honestly say any things wrong yet as this is my first build yet to complete.

I've owned a couple of ar's and keep old "pb"  sp1 for nastalgia-honestly never had  a problem other than broken hold open bolt spring on sp1 with crappy 40rnd mag.

looking for "holy grail" of reliabilty is all.

would love "full auto bgc" just worry about legal complications is all.

just looking for advice about best possible combination possible(barring murfys law)

again thank you all for honest feedback.

The o-ring puts more tension on the extractor, which results in a better grip on the cartridge case, resulting in better extraction.

Both of my midlengths have standard springs, M16 BCGs and H-buffers.

Both have run 100% on my Guatamala surplus and the case of PMC that I used up recently.

The Colt 6920s (along with several other brands) are shipped from the factory to CIVILIAN customers with a "full auto" (full circle) carrier.  It's fine and there's nothing to worry about.  I would, however, avoid any M16 fire-control parts in your lower.

Get they BravoCompany M16 BCG, you won't be disappointed.
