Anyone recall which firm uses the stamp shaped like a keyhole? Both my DPMS carry handle and J & T upper have it. I'm sure its buried somewhere here on the board but I couldn't turn anything up on searching. Thanks |

I found this in a search. The keyhole is the Cerro Metal forge marking. Forging marks/makers. A (splintered) = Anchor Harvey Aluminum AF = Alcoa Forge C AF = Colt Alco Forge C MB = Colt / Mueller Brass Cardinal (stylized) = Cardinal Forge CH = Colt Harvey Aluminum CK = Colt / Kaiser Aluminum Circle/Crooshairs w/"AR" = ArmaLite CM = Colt / Martin Marietta D (stylized) = Diemaco DK = Diemaco / Kaiser Aluminum E = Emco EK = EMCO/Kaiser E MB = EMCO/Mueller Brass F keyhole = FNMI / Cerro Forge FA = FNMI / Anchor Harvey FK = FNMI / Kaiser Aluminum FM = FN/Martin Marietta FMB = FNMI / Mueller Brass Keyhole = Cerro Forge L = Lewis Machine & Tool LK = LAR / Kaiser Aluminum LM = LAR / Martin Marietta M (under diamond) = Mueller Industries PA = Capco / Anchor Harvey PM = Capco / Martin Marietta |
| I've seen Cerro forge uppers on factory Colt, Bushmaster, DPMS to name a few. I've seen just about every vendor here sell Cerro Forge upper receivers. The forging mark has little to no meaning on who actually finish machined the upper receiver. Cerro Forge supplies RAW FORGINGS to AR manufacturers who finish machine the parts. |

I have a Colt Commando upper (keyhole forge) w/C stamped into it next to the forge mark, M4 marked at the gas tube & a c in a triangle in front of the ejection port. It looks original but never saw "C" stamped into a reciever. BTW, the cary handle has a square box forgemarking |
There have a couple of other posts recently about Colt uppers w/atamped Cs. My hunch is that Colt is turning out so many M4s for the govt, and so many civie pieces as well, that they're having to take upper forgings that the forges turned out for the general market to keep up w/demand. |
Thanks shamayim! |
