Can anyone give me info on this flat top with an "A" marking?

That is the forge mark for Anchor Harvey Aluminum (splintered A). They are the company that made the raw forging but this is no indication about what manufacturer machined & finished the receiver. I think Colt may be one of thier customers but there would be a "C" to the left of the forge mark if it was made for them IIRC. I'm sure there are a million other M16 & AR makers that buy forgings from Anchor Harvey as well.

The pic is too dark on my screen to see the marking, but it's probably an "A" that's split accross the middle. If so, it's the mark for Anchor Harvey, and the bottom of the mark is actually a stylized "H".

Anchor Harvey, however, is simply the company that produced the raw forging, and it tells you nothing about who actually took that raw piece and made a finished upper out of it. Until recently, only Colt (C) and FN (F) had their IDs along with the forge mark. In the past couple of years a couple of the commercial outfits have also starrted adding their IDs to uppers. Rock River is now putting an ID on the tyop of their flat tops, but the piece I got of theirs 4 years ago didn't have anything but the AH forge mark.

(ETA) Oh well, late again.

FWIW, I bought a new Colt 6520 upper from a reputable dealer (Fidelis) that checked out for all the other tell tale Colt identifiers, but had only the Anchor Harvey forge mark and no "C" on the receiver.

Thanks for the info.  Sorry about the Pic quality but it is one I copied online.   I bought this M4 barrelled upper and the seller stated it was from M&A Parts.   Their website provided little info on the source of their components.
