I have a Vortex that has straight tines on it.. Is it an older model or what?? |
Where is the SE marking?? I have 5 Vortexs and I dont see markings on any of them and atleast 1 5.56 and 1 .308 came DIRECTLY from Smith.. Thanks |
|
I haven't purchased a Vortex in YEARS. Smith used to make pretty much everything they manufactured with a SE marking surrounded on all four sides by indented brackets. I still have two aluminum SE bolt carriers that are marked. If it's an OLD vortex, it's either marked or it's one of the fakes that were out there. PursuitSS |
So your saying Smith sold Skeeter a fake vortex?![]()

The original Vortex flash suppressors had straight tines. PursuitSS |
| an email or a phone call to Smith enterprises would solve the mystory, I realy hate when fakes are sold as the real deal ,I hope you didn't fall victom to a fake . it is sad when a company doe's the R&D to make a great product only to get ripped off . Smith makes a great FS and I'm sure they can settle this with a call, good luck . If it's real It should bring $30.00 to $40.00 or so . |
Skeeter stated that at least 2 of the 5 came directly from Smith, not all of them. I certainly hope he wasnt sold a fake under false pretenses, but I have seen quite a few of the straight models ( all copy's ) at recent gun shows. So to clarify Skeeter, are you sure of the origin of this particular FH? |
well I have one off the ee I'm going to get it perm attached to a 14.5 so if it blows off I'm gonna be pissed |
Mine was a perm attach ordered direct from a vendor on a Colt upper. I was pissed at the vendor at the time too. I don't remember which one it was though. |
I confirmed with Smith that it was indeed a fake and then I contacted the vendor. I sent the upper in and the vendor either swapped out the FH or sent a new upper. I couldn't tell because the pinning/soldering of the FH was actually real good. |
Might also be a 'Vortec'. |
It's a fake if it's advertised and sold as a Smith and turns out to be something else. Considering mine lost a prong, I'm guessing it wasn't a Young either. |

Hey guys, On the cover of Tactical Response magazine, an M4 has a Smith Vortex style flash hider that has (4) built in carbide tip glass breakers. Who makes this? gotta have. Thankshock.gif |
