Hello all. I just bought my first guns ever. A friend of mine had a S&W M&P .40, it fit my hand perfectly and pointed dead on, so... I bought one. They also had the M&P 15 optics ready (read as no sights) for a good deal, so... I bought one. Rounding the weapons out, I picked up 2 magpul 30's, 200 rounds of ammo, a cheap set of BUIS, a Truglo 2x red dot scope, and a rail to raise the scope. The pistol is for home defense, the AR is for fun and (given the state of the world) whatever. I was in the Navy and qualified marksman, so I have a basic understanding of weapons, and I plan on shooting both till I am comfortable with them. I spent all of my mad money, and I am sure I will want to upgrade eventually. I am most concerned with the Truglo as I have not read many reviews on them. Any one have any feed back on that sight. |
pics or it didnt happen! |

I'd take a NRA firearms safety course first if this is your first time ever delving into firearms. Even though I've been around firearms a while, I did take the NRA pistol safety course last year and it was well worth it. If you are already well versed in firearm safety, then all is good and no hard feelings for the suggustion BTW, congrats on the new firearms. Buy a shitload of ammo and happy (and safe) shooting. |

I don't live too far from you. I can give you a few suggestions of places to get additional training if you want. PM me if you are interested. |

or upload to photobucket and it'll resize it for you. |
| nice buy. as far as the sight - no experience and havent heard anything. i've had a couple cheap reddots bust from the recoil of my ak so i wouldnt spend less than $100 on one personally. Im sure it will be fine for plinking but i wouldnt trust my life on it. (but then again you do have a buis so if you can cowittness should anything go wrong your good 2 go.) Have fun! |
| What range were you firing the AR at? I would start at around 25 yards on a large target to get your irons zeroed, then while looking through your irons, adjust the TruGlo until the dot sits on top of the front sight. That will get your TruGlo on target and you can fire and make adjustments from there. After getting the rifle zeroed at 25 yards, extend the range to your desired zero yardage. |

I'm waiting on my first AR from CMMG. Where do you shoot at? I'm also in VA and get out to a range in the National forest near WV. I would think that the AR would be a lot more accurate than a pistol even at 20 yards. At that range you should practically be able to look down the barrel without a sight and at least hit a target. Hope nothing's wrong with the rifle. |
