Well I just put a Nikon Monarch on my rifle and headed to the range today to sight it in.  I have a bunch of 55 gr.HP Wolf ammo and started with that.  Once I had it dialed in I switched to Federal XM193 55gr. ball rounds and I could feel that this round was more powerful.  The Federal XM193 grouped even better but shot about 3 inches higher.  I then changed to Igman 62 gr. FMJ ammo.  These rounds were also more powerful than the wolf but the groups were all over the place.  This is the first time I've used military ammo and is my first AR.  Im used to using premium ammo in my hunting rifles and never really have a problem shooting 1" groups at 200yds from a bench.
So my question is which ammo should I sight my rifle in with?  I'd like to stick with the Federal ammo but is almost twice as much as Wolf.  As for the Igman?  Maybe I got a bad batch or my barrel was getting too hot. I don't know.  Any advice?  thanks.

Sight in with what you're going to shoot. If you have to use the cheaper stuff because of budget then you're prolly just going to have to accept the inconsistancy of your groups. Nothing wrong with the cheap stuff as long as it works. However, different ammo usually, not always, but usually groups differently. If I can't afford the good stuff then I don't shoot during my off time if I can't get work ammo.

I sight mine in with Black Hills in the same grain I plan to shoot.  I then plink with the cheap monarch stuff.  The cheap stuff doesn't group as close as the BlackHills or fedral, but it groups close enough (within about 2").

I guess I'll have to pick a load and stick with it and have to deal with making adjustments while aiming.  thanks.
