I am looking to purchase my first Bushmaster AR-15 this fall and have a few questions

I am sure I want it in 16" length and telescoping buttstock.

1. Is it preferable  to buy a model that has no carrying handle vs one with a removable handle if I plan on adding a scope

2. Do i want to go with carbon or aluminum receivers

3. Is there a particular favorite model among buyers

4. Are there any models to avoid

5. Any other info for first timer?

1. Is it preferable  to buy a model that has no carrying handle vs one with a removable handle if I plan on adding a scope  I think it's impracticle now days to buy a gun with a fixed carry handle.  The sky is the limit with a flat top.

2. Do i want to go with carbon or aluminum receivers ALUMINUM!  Avoid the Carbon's!
3. Is there a particular favorite model among buyers  The Patrolmans Carbine or the Texas DPS Rifle
4. Are there any models to avoid  CARBONS!

5. Any other info for first timer?

I think many people will tell you that you should get familiar with using iron sights first,
then upgrade to a scope a later date.  So...  it's important that you get one with a flat-top
and a removable carry handle.

2. Do i want to go with carbon or aluminum receivers

The carbon15 models are not too popular.  I would stay away from them.  Stick with the aluminum.

3. Is there a particular favorite model among buyers

I think the "M4 Patrolman's carbine" is a pretty popular model.  That was my first ar-15.

4. Are there any models to avoid

I would avoid the carbon15 models.

5. Any other info for first timer?

There's lots of info on the site - take advantage of it.
Take the weapon apart, clean it, and get familiar with it before you venture to the range.
Be prepared to spend a fortune on additional parts, magazines, and ammo.
Stay safe and have fun.

I have a patrolmens bushmaster with removable handle. I tried mounting a cheap piece of junk nc star scope on the carry handle and the scope sucks so my other option is take the handle off and put some better optics on the flat top. I love the option of removable handle. That shouldnt even be a option they all should be removable. goodluck on your decision. I had been wanting one for 2 years after I shot my buddys and they are a sweet rifle! OBAMA AND HILLIARY SPEEDED UP MY DECISION!

I think that the answers to your questions are somewhat dependent on what your plans are for the rifle.  Providing more feedback on what you want to use the rifle for will allow some members here to give more appropriate answers.

Good luck with your search

Thanks for the inputs.

The thought that the Democrats are indeed waiting to bring on a permanent ban on the 93 banned items plus additional items has made me decide to act now as well.

As for the plans for the AR well lets see the options are humans, animals or targets hooting
If anyone knows of any privately owned land in the southeastern Virginia or surrounding area where people can go shooting I would welcome the info.

Have you tried different ammo? Not uncommon to have problems with Wolf. Or just send it back...I'm sure they'll fix it for you. I have several different ARs, including 1 Bushmaster. It works as well as my Colt, or my S&W, or my Sabre Defense, or my...well, you get the picture.
