What kind of accuracy should I expect out of a CMMG 16" chrome lined heavy barrel 1:7 twist with 55 grain bullets? Any CMMG owners with info available?

I have their 14.7" with A2 FH. I can hit 5-6" steel at 200yards with iron sites shooting off hand. So yeah Id say they are accurate. I had them put a PRI front flip up on and im using Wilson combat rear flip up, no other optics or scopes. I am very pleased with their barrels. I mainly shoot XM193 ammo as well.

Using a scope, I'm having trouble keeping a 6" group at 100 yards. I can normally shoot about a 1-2" group with other guns that are capable. The group seems to be spread more horizontally than just a round group. Is this a symptom of something?

I have a 16" CMMG 1/7 chromelined lightweight barrel in a VLTOR VIS upper. Last time I checked zero off sandbags @ 100 yards the group was just over an inch. Ammo was 55 grn. Hornady FMJ handloads from a Dillon 550. Optic was a 4 moa Aimpoint.

My CMMG barrel has performed well.

I have a 16" CMMG 1:9 WASP barrel'd upper and it is more accurate than I'll ever be.

CL'd 1/7 medcon 10.3, 14.5 gov't profile & former 11.5 are very accurate. I shoot 55gr .223 FMJ's & SP's with no issues. You may have a bad barrel or you're doing something wrong.

Try different ammo. It is possible you got a bad barrel but try other ammo first. Also,
pay a bit more attention to your shooting position. Not saying you are doing it wrong,
but try to take out all variables before you try to get another barrel. Horizontal
stringing can often be caused by being off of your natural point of aim or by muscling
the weapon into position or by hooking the trigger with your finger.

Check these things first, then go to your rifle.

CMMG barrels are as good as any other 4150 CMV CL 1/7 barrel out there.
Is this happening for the first few shots or after 20 or so shots under a minute. The reason I ask is because people tend to overlook the fact that a hot barrel is not as accurate as a cool one. I know its simple but often overlooked.

What type of sights are you using? BUIS?
I think you said a scope, Are you using good quality flat lensed shooting glasses or safety glasses from HD? When using optics make sure the optic is on tight and that you arent looking through glass wearing curved plastic lenses that will scew the sight picture. Took me a while to figure that one out

I did a test(when no one was looking)
I fired a few shots scoped at 50 yards wearing safety glasses(cheap HD ones)
Then I fired a few shots scoped(same rifle)without glasses
Then a few shots with good brand name shooting glasses(not too expensive, but good)

I found out that with the cheap glasses I was shooting about 4 inches high!
No wonder I couldnt sight the damn thing in.

+1 on cheap glasses through optics , it just dont work
the lens messes me up every time
i figured this out shooing my 10 22 one time
with glasses i was way high and couldnt get a zero
next time at the range i had different glasses and was way low
turns out the glasses were causing this the whole time
