You should be able to get the gray off.  It's a dry lube coating.  It's black underneath.

If not...  Gun-Kote it!

I'm a Gun-Kote junky as of late.

You're as anal about fit/finish/sight alignment/color as I am, lol!

Hit it with brake cleaner and all the Sandstrom dry lube will melt off with some rubbing.  You gonna take it out of your upper receiver as well?

What's the purpose of the dry lube?  Smooth sliding?

I think defiant1 was being a LITTLE sarcastic, but maybe not so much.

Looks to me are JUST as important as function.

Just like a woman, I want my gun to look fucking spectacular, but still know how to handle the projectiles I feed it...  Or something to that effect.

the original LMT buffer tube and stock fit so tightly it could hardly be considered
smooth sliding regardless of what color it is or whats on it.  after the buffer tube switch (black stag and grey lmt), no function was lost to either rifle, and my prize rifle now has a continuous appearance.
i am particular about this kind of thing and didnt want to switch to an inferior part solely due to looks. after the eval, time at the range and side by side comparison, i would state that from my perception there is no significant difference in spec or weight. between the two the only observable difference so far is the color.

I have found that manually cycling the bolt carrier with LMT and Colt tubes feel smoother than with other tubes. Just my limited observations, of course there's probably no difference when actually firing the thing.

I would have guessed that DSA was using exclusively LMT parts.
