| ok im getting ready to order my first RRA CAR A4 from legaltranfers. and im curious what is the best bang for you buck on 5.56 or for .223 or what brands should i stay away from. also my dad owns a .223 ar15 and it doesnt shoot 5.56 very well at all would .223 wylde do any better with with 5.56 mil surplus ammo ? |
| I would check out the ammo oracle on this site. Click Equipment Exchange, then ammunition. But in my experience, you can't go wrong with Winchester XM193, Lake City 5.56,. Check out www.ammoman.com and www.ammunitiontogo.com for some good prices on 5.56 and .223. |
Your Wylde chamber should eat 5.56 and .223 fine. It is made to do so. \

| All the word Wylde stands for is 1 in 8 twist to be able to shoot larger bullets if you choose to. You can shoot anything from 50 grain up to 75 grain with no problems at all. As long as you don't buy crappy ammo, your gun will shoot it great. Also don't skimp on the mags as they can be the weak link as well. |
WTF?????

The RRA Varmint rifles and quite a few others come with a Wylde chamber, which is a mix between .223 and 5.56. For those of you that do not know, the 5.56x45 NATO is NOT exactly the same as a .223 Rem. The 5.56 spec allows for slightly longer chambers for HIGHER pressures. The .223 has a tighter chamber around the neck and is shorter which allows for a bit better accuracy. You can shoot .223 ammo in a 5.56 chamber, but it is DANGEROUS to shoot 5.56 (surplus for instance) ammo in a .223 chamber. What the Wylde chamber does is allow for 5.56 ammo with slightly tighter chamber for better accuracy. So you can shoot both 5.56 and 223 safely with good accuracy. |
Ummmm.... no. Wylde is a Chamber specification and has nothing to do with barrel twist. Oh, and to answer your question... I'd get some 200 round PRVI M193 battle packs from Wideners (www.wideners.com). $69 a piece. Great ammo. - AG |

a .223 Wylde will feed 5.56 - it's just a tad tighter (thus better accuracy typically) than typical 5.56 chambers. Only reason it's ever maligned is if you're shooting long strings of fire (very hot barrel), the slightly tighter chamber tends to add to tolerance stacks adding up to FTE becoming more common with stock extractors, or sub-par ammunition. Generally a non-worry, and if it's a concern, get an upgraded bolt package from BCG/Denny's/AIM/etc. and you'll be fine afterwards. As far sa 5.56 surplus - the PRVI should be just fine - I'm getting another 1000 from Wideners later this week. |
