You all know the kind of VFG that has the steel/aluminum core, where you twist the bottom cap to tighten up into your quad-rail...  Do you use any kind of washer or "O" ring where the grip actually comes into contact with the rail, or do you just let it sit  metal-to-metal?

I had an old Yankee Hill VFG that was like that...never used any O-ring on it or anything...only used it on my plastic handguards, but there was no rubbing or anything on the rails...

I have the Daniel Defense M4 7,0 rail. It is made out of alluminum.  After installing the removing the VFG, i noticed some of the finish had rubbed off of the rail from the metal pin of the grip making contact with the rail.

The KAC, GG&G and Bobro are twist to tighten style VGs.

If you are worried about messing up the finish of your HG, keep your AR locked in your safe and don't ever take it out.

I take my light off my M4gery every day and it's rubbing the finish off my LaRue 11.0 in one spot.

It looks sexy!

Go to walmart or the fun store and get some Alumniblack for $5

It is not parkerize but if the surface is aluminum (ie: lower & upper, some rails) if you heat up a spoon full on the stove burner then apply to the rub with a cue tip it matches the black perfectly and cures the many nicks scratches and scraprs from daily use.

If you don't want your rifle to look worn but still want to shoot the crap out of it this is the way to do it.
