| What would actually happen if the gas rings on the bolt are all lined up or atleast two rings lined up when put into the carrier then fired? |
|
I tried it once an had the rifle function with no problem. I was taught in a armorer class that once the bolt is inserted into the carrier the rings compress and all but seal up. If memory serves me right it's believed the BCG will fail to cycle fully. I'm sure others will have a different story, I'm no expert by any means. David |

I've deliberatly lined them up. The rifle still functions. The gaps close as you push the bolt into the bolt carrier. I've had two rings aligned (they were when I disassembled) and one ring broken, and I certainly couldn't tell it from having shot it. That one carbine would eat rings. Every time I disassembled the bolt carrier assy, the last ring had one or both ends broken off. But the remaining two rings still did the job. I finally started using the McFarland spiral ring in that carbine and never had another breakage problem. Never could find a problem looking inside that bolt carrier, but there must have been something. Well, the spiral ring is still in there. The whole thing about staggering the rings is a waste of time. It is a problem in people's minds only. In reality, it just doesn't matter. |
