Took my 14.5 Afghan out today. Put about 500 rounds through it, one malfunction. The malfunction was catastrophic though if it happened during a fire fight. The shell failed to eject but the BCG slammed back and tried to feed another round while the shell casing was still stuck in the chamber. It wasnt the guns fault....I was shooting steel cased Wolf and the gun is still very new. The chamber is kinda tight I guess and when the casing expanded, it jammed in the chamber and the extractor just slipped off the lip as the BCG went back. It took taking my Bore Tech cleaning rod and putting it down the muzzle and gently tapping the shell casing out to free it up. In a fire fight I woulda been toast. However....in a firefight, I wouldnt have been using steel cased ammo. I have no doubt that if I was shooting factory brass cased ammo, i could have put 1000 rounds without cleaning or lubing and not have a malfunction. |
| I have about 3000 rounds through my N4 now. Zero malfunctions. In that 3000 rounds I've shot mostly my reloads, but also put Wolf, PMC, AE, Rem UMC, and various other brands of ammo through it. That was also with Pmags and USGI mags of various manufacturers. I couldn't be happier with it. |
| I see that Noveske barrels have Wylde chambers? Can someone explain? What does this means. I though Wylde chambers were for heavy bullets only? I'm about an inch from pulling the trigger on a Diplomat upper and want to make sure it'll shoot anything I give it. I see some folks are putting Wolf though theirs, which is good because I don't have much of a stock pile of brass cased ammo, but I have a few thousand rounds of steel cased(polymer type). And this will be a semi auto only gun--incase that matters. Thanks! |
The Wylde chamber is basically a happy medium between 556 and .223 chambers. It allows you to shoot 223 with greater accuarcy yet you still can shoot 556. |
| Sounds like Noveske is about as good as it gets!!!he That,s alot of hot air!!! |
For training, Wolf is fine. I keep the gun stoked with 75 grain TAP if I need it and I have 2000 rounds of XM193 and a 1000 of SS109 for TEOTWAWKI scenarios. |
I think some of us were thinking of all cases...including worse case. My stock pile has three times the amount of steel cased than brass. I just want to make sure before I buy a 1,500 upper that it's shoot whatever I feed it. |
