If I'm getting a heavy buffer (for use w/ carbine gas system), will it hurt if I get a Chrome Silicon Buffer Spring?  I like what I hear about the durability of the CS springs.  Is it over-kill?

I've been using a David Tubb "Speed Lock" chrome silicon flat wire buffer spring and 'H' buffer in my M16 with 11.5" upper.  Have approx 3K on it and 0 problems to date.

If it is you can always just take the heavy buffer out.

A 9mm buffer MIGHT be getting close to overkill with a Tubb spring.  It would take testing in you rifle to be sure.  An H buffer and Tubb spring is not even close to overkill.

What do you mean overkill? Also, how would this Tubbs CS Spring and longer barrels (i.e. 16" ) work?

Cool

My Benchmades  auto knives use a FLAT COIL SPRING

I have yet to break one

I have Broke the coil on my SOCOM wich is a regular round coil

I do Belive the Flat type coil springs are better

but thats based on  coils for auto knives

BTW

I replaced the spring that came with my VLTOR telestock
It was way to strong along with H buffer
I replaced it with a Bravocompany regular coil spring and kept the H buffer

I do run 9mm buffer on my GO TO LMT Defender M4 14.5
WAY WAY smoother and doesnt jump off the range bag like my Back up M4 with H buffer

I use a regular LMT coil spring that came with the Carbine/M4

I think I'm going to try a 9mm buffer too.

Is this Buffer considered and Normal, H, H2 or 9mm?

FMJ, How do you know that the spring was too much w/ the H-Buffer. Was it short-stroking?  If so, what ammo were you using?  Just curious.

According to the picture in this link I would say that it is a 9mm buffer. Would I be correct in assuming that? If so, why doesn't Brownell's website (or DPMS for that matter) state it as 9mm?

On all 8 of my LMT rifles i run the tubbs spring(THE OLDER ROUND WIRE Tubbs spring) with an H buffer and its fine. Even when i use underpowerd UMC ammo.If you are useing the FLATWIRE spring just use a H buffer. If you are haveing failers to lock back on the last round with the flatwire spring, just cut the spring down one coil at a time till you get it to lock back on the last round.

If I end up having to cut the Flatwire spring, the spring will no longer have the nice finished (two coils together) end. Could this potentially cause performance issues and/or internal buffer tube damage issues?

It's a 9mm buffer.
