| I live in CT which still has an AW ban in effect. I have a Stag Arms post ban AR already. Can I buy rifle or lower provided it was manufactured before the ban so as to be able to have the "evil" features? Or am I limited to post ban rifles? |

You may buy a "pre ban" and then put evil features(good stuff) on it but it can not be on the CT "list" . This means that for example if the rifle is stamped "Colt AR15" or "Colt Sporter" on the side it is no go. AN E.A. , PWA,or Bushmaster are examples of guns that if made before "the date" are ok. This is not to be taken lightly in CT . The state will prosecute for this alone-I know a guy who is part way through his ONE YEAR sentence. As a convicted felon this will be a millstone hanging around his neck for the rest of his life! |
I thought as long as it is pre-ban, it is exempted from the "list". Meaning, you could have a pre-ban "Colt AR15" labeled as such, but not a post-ban with the same label. We have the same bullshit in NY, and I remember reading we could have those Colt's labeled with the "no-no" label, if they were pre-ban. |
| CT has it's own ban, even after the '94 ban expired, which says specifically what models are illegal. "COLT AR-15s" are a no-no. I know that there is a bit of gray area surrounding whether the "firearm" is meant to be the lower or the complete rifle, so I'd like to just find a complete rifle and go from there. What type of documentation would I need with the rifle to prove it is pre-ban? What would a complete pre-ban rifle cost me? Any suggestions would be great. Once I get a better idea I will probably post something in the Equipment Exchance. I hear you FullAuto. I guess it could be worse though. At least we don't have any hi-cap mag restrictions. |

If the lower is a CT legal pre ban (not on the CT list) you can build it with any combo of parts allowed by federal law. I suppose that if you did not have a pre ban lower and owned a pre ban type upper along with a post ban lower it would be an infraction of the law assembled or not |
| I just want clarification PRIOR to my purchasing the certified pre-ban lower that it is legal to put a post-ban upper on the pre-ban lower? I do not currently own a pre-ban upper, just the post ban. There should be nothing wrong with my owning pre-ban and post-ban lowers, provided I do not own a pre-ban upper, correct? This way, if there are no problems, I can shoot my post-ban upper on the pre-ban lower, while I am selling my post-ban lower. Once the post-ban lower is sold and out of my possession I would purchase a new pre-ban upper. Sorry it sounds so confusing. It's like "Who's on first?" I'll check out what's in the hometown link too Scott. |
| After sorting through a lot of the confusion at the beginning of the New England link, I found "The only combination that is a no go is a Preban upper on a Postban lower." which I know. I have a post-ban left-handed Stag upper. I just really want to verify that if I buy a pre-ban lower I can put my new post-ban Stag upper on it. Essentially I want the pre-ban features, I just also want a left-handed upper. Then I still have something to shoot while I sell the lower, and after I save up the money I can finally get around to buying the pre-ban upper. |
| So my temporary set-up would be a pre-ban Bushmaster lower, with the left-handed Stag post-ban upper and then the pre-ban lower lets me put a telestock on it, and eventually a pre-ban upper. Prior to buying the pre ban upper I would sell my post ban lower. The Bushmaster lower comes with proper paperwork to confirmit was a completely assembled rifle prior to the '94 ban. The New England link has a lot of confusion as to the gray areas. I am just hoping for confirmation that this potential set-up is CT legal. |
