| tried a search, has anyone tried a duostock? makes sense, but looks a little strange. thanks for any input. |
Other than it sliding up my shoulder, it works as advertised. It is quite comfortable and works even better when on a rifle with lower stock such as an XCR or SIG 556. If I were building the thing, I would make the following changes: Rubber butt pad to keep the thing from sliding. Decrease the width of the butt as it needlessly gets wider towards the toe. Give the sides a profile like my VLTOR EMOD. Of these three changes, the first one is the most important. The other two are not really necessary but more of a personal preference. |

My previous agency got a bunch from a grant to outfit all of our issue patrol rifles. They worked as advertised. They are UGLY as sin, but are comfortable to shoot with, and seemed to fit in the pocket much better when shooting prone than with a standard buttstock. I put mine through paces in Pat Rogers' Carbine Operator course and got a number of rounds through my issue one. I saw two negatives that made me take mine back off. #1 the shape of the hook prevented me to bring it in tight in a CQB position I use without getting my wrist hooked if I needed to being it back up to my shoulder. The problem only existed when the stock was completely collapsed and was gone when it was moved out a position. #2, the pure thickness of it made it difficult for me to get it out of the interior of my squad quickly when in a vertical mount in between the seats. When I bring the rifle out, I want it out now and my practicing found that the Duostock slowed me up. It may be fine in an overhead mount or in a different vertical rig or sorts. That being said, I would have absolutely no problems using one again if they corrected problem #1 somehow in their design, or if I was doing marksmanship shooting. The curve and width of the toe made it work fine for rotating up and down on a tac vest and I never experienced slipping or not being able to bring the rifle right up to my shoulder. It's gotta be 2 inches wide back there? I don't have mine handy to measure. Again, it worked as they advertised it would. The top rear of the buttstock extension stuck out from the rear of the stock so very very slightly. I don't remember if it was the milspec or civilian extension I had. That made me concerned with a malfunction drill. If it's hit square it should be fine. There is a lot of surface area to absorb shock as well. The material seemed decent enough, but I do not have any other experience with hard failure drills with mine. Make sure you get the one for your size stock extension. They have stocks for mil-spec and non. As to where does the stock end up, well, that huge hook on the toe curves very naturally on ones armor. I haven't heard anyone yet say they weren't comfortable. Everyone to a T has said they were ugly! Hope this helps, let me know if you have other questions or need more info and I can dig it out... |
