In doing my research for an AR which I can use for competition as well as farm/ranch shooting I have found great reports on JP, Les Baer, and Sabre.  Is Sabre really in the category of the other 2?  I'd like to hear from owners of all 3 of these brands...  any buyer's remorse?  Does LMT with its MPR system come close (to give me more flexibility)?

As an aside, I'd also like to have a second upper (or complete gun) in 6.5 Grendel.  Does anyone out there who knows these brands have an opinion on their 6.5 products?

I have had 3 sabres, currently own 2. IMHO there aren't many better, LB builds world class stuff, I have a couple of his 1911's. but you pay dearly to support his muscle car collection. Sabre builds most of the Ma-Deuce barrels for our military. Great company. my .02..

Les Baer and Sabre are not even in the same ball park (or PRICE!) as JP Enterprises or RND Manufacturing.

I had a JP Enterprises Grade III that I purchased around ten+ years ago. DEALER was $2650.00 without a scope.

JP is top notch but their stuff is far removed from run of the mill ARs.

I'm not a JP fan because I'm not in to what they're in to, but they build world class guns.

Sabre builds very good guns, although they're priced lower than LB or JP, their quality is top notch. Will you give up a small amount of accuracy? Maybe. Reliability? Not at all, the opposite if anything...

LB guns are really nice but they are parts guns just like Sabre.

You can build your own and save money.

Build your own for much cheaper...and it will still be more mechanically accurate than you are.
Why spend the money on a "high end" AR?

For both competition and Varmit killing I would say MSTN or JP enterprises.

I'm just built a 3-gun rifle based upons MSTN's 17" Lija STD competition barrel.

LMT MRP system is inclusive in that all you need to do is change barrels/calibers/bolts.  I spoke with LMT a month of so ago and the next caliber they are going to bring out is the 6.5G.  If you get their CQB MRP (carbine size rail/upper) you can also get their piston kit if you want.  Again, all you change out is the barrel/BCG and you are good to go!!!

If you want us to find you ways to spend lots of money - right place.

I just can't see a reason to spend above average costs on anything other than the operating components.

MRP only shines if you're looking at a single upper/lower using multiple barrels (although for most cases, an entirely separate upper is more cost effective)

I'd say go it a bit on the parts end, especially for a 6.5 rifle.  Get the high end parts where it matters, especially on the barrel, but it's on you for which caliber you'd prefer.

If you want an accurate weapon, build it yourself.  You can get exactly what you want for a lot less money.  With compnents from La Rue and Noveske you can put together something that is as or more accurate than the assembly line rifles out there.  The only problem is that once you build one rifle, you will not be able to stop,  I have built 5 and I am planning my sixth build.  They all have their own personalities, it is like having kids.
