I don't know what happened, but while shooting today, my muzzle break started to move around and looked cockeyed. Tightening it by hand got it just a little snug and then very loose again. The male threads look bad and the female threads on the flash suppresor ain't in good shape either. My tap and die kit doesn't fit the parts. Anyone know exactly which tap and die parts I need? If I need a new flash hider, I still want to clean up the male threads on the barrel. Also, how do I sign up to get instant email notifications? |

You can either rent or buy a tap kit for your rifle you need to get a new muzzle brake / flash hider. As an AR it should have 1/2 x 28 Right hand threads You need a TAT (Tread Alignment Tool) and an appropriate tap. The TAT's vari by threads and caliber. Buy:http://www.shop.preciseinnovationsllc.com/category.sc?categoryId=3 You will probably need to call them as they don't list the appropriate kit listed. Rent: http://www.dinzagarms.com/tools/tkr.html If the threads are completely done on the rifle you will either have to replace the barrel, have the barrel shortened and new threads cut, or have the threads striped completely off and have a muzzle device soldered and/or pined on. Pictures will help us help you better. |

a 1/2x28 tap or die cost is $18 each I got both.look under "exotic" and you will find them when ordering. you won't need an alignment tool for this, just try chasing the threads.if you can't then you will need a chop and re-thread. this is an easy do it yourself job. |

rifle sounds trashed and should be given to an aircraft mechanic for destruction. hey! look at that, i am an aircraft mechanic!!! seriously you need to answer M4's question. if its a 16 " barrel have the barrel cut and re threaded. if the threads are gone, no amount of thread chasing and tap and dies are going to fix it. cross threaded maybe, but not stripped out thread. like mentioned also, you can just get it hand tightened to where it belongs and have it silver soldered on permantely |

It's a carbine. Does that put me in danger of breaking a law by shortening the barrel? I don't think the male threads are too bad. What do you think? http://www.fototime.com/57497129F1B49C1/standard.jpg |
