have
I have been to a 25yd indoor range and fired a fair amount of ammo on their rental Bushmaster. I really loved the weapon but I read some not so great reviews on the Bushmasters. So, I decided to send Lewis Machine and Tool an email and low and behold the level of customer service won me over. There is an employee named Ryan who answered everyone of my (no less than 15 emails) in less than an hour each time.
I ordered the COMP16 (which I am told is the "compliant" version of the Standard Patrol rifle). I am so excited and I cannot wait.

Anyone have any comments for me?

I assume my next purchase will be some optics. I have joined a shooting club with 100, 200 and 300 yd ranges so I only need optics that are good up to the 300 yd distance.

Good first post.  You buy with style.  Welcome to the site!

Be sure to post pics when you get it.

Edit:  Don't say lurking.  It's creepy.

an NJ compliant LMT?
you did very well for your first rifle!

keep us posted and definitely post pics. i haven't seen this LMT offering and wasn't aware that they were selling complete rifles.

as for optics, you can't go wrong topping off your LMT with an Aimpoint or an EoTech.

you'll probably want some mags too. check in the hometown forums. there was a user making 15rd mags that retained the 30rd mag body. they are WAY nicer than the crappy US MAG steel ones i had to use when i lived in the PRNJ.

i've also seen a couple threads where a brave soul cut down his PMAGs to lower capacities. a 15rd PMAG would be cool.

Cool man - Glad to see that you didn't just join the masses and buy a Rock River or a Bushy (not that there is anything at all wrong with either before I get flamed)

Post pics when you get it.

I also got corrected on the lurking thing on my fisrt post.  Hanging out, chillin, researching, surfing the forum.........

LURKING baaaaaaaaahhhhh

Wow! I am in a lot of forums and by far this is the warmest reception I have ever received on my first post.

For those of you who said you didn't know LMT sold complete rifles I just wanted to let you know  there was a flier I saw on some website that listed 3 rifles LMT had to offer. I went to their homepage and sent an email to the sales dept. Within 1 hour they had emailed me back and gave me the model number for the NJ compliant rifle. (Apparently it is something they sell but don't advertise much). It's basically the same as the STD16 which is the Standard Patrol version but it has a pinned and welded muzzle brake and a pinned and fixed stock. The gentleman I have been dealing with at LMT is awesome. I am 32 years old and to this day I have never received better customer service. The guy over there at LMT told me exactly what I needed to do to get my rifle delivered to my FFL in NJ and he actually called the FFL and made the deal for me. I told him I was a little concerned about giving this guy my money and having HIM place the order for me. Not that I thought I was going to get ripped off but I wasn't sure if the old man (my FFL) would purchase the right item. LMT not only called the FFL and made the sale but when I told him I wanted it before next weekend so I could go to the range and sight it in he actually went to his warehouse and made sure it went out on the UPS truck today instead of Mon or Tue (their normal shipping day).

If anyone you know of is looking for the best (in my opinion) customer service around, tell them to contact LMT directly. The price was great too. $1250 which is what the RRA and the Bushmasters are going for around here.

So any suggestions on upgrades to my LMT? I was thinking of Surefire M73 Quadrails. How do you install them? And anyone know where I can get these 15 round magazines?

Someone mentioned Aimpoint or EOTech. Do you have a specific model I should look for? I want something that will be good at 300 yds but also for home defense that will work in CQB too.

Welcome .  I'm glad to hear about you're experience with LMT (although I'm not surprised).  I'm very happy with my 14.5in LMT.

As for the Surefire hand guards I believe they install just like any normal hand guards, however I may be wrong.  May I suggest that you look at a KAC RAS as an alternative non-free float rail, they regularly go for around $200.00 in the Equipment Exchange  (I got mine for 210.00 shipped, new w/ rail covers and a vfg).

As for optics I suggest that you learn to use you're irons first, and after shooting the weapon and learning the basics make the call on what would best suit you're needs.  Both the aimpoint and eotech would be suitable optics for the ranges you described.  For information about optics try the Optics forum.

Again welcome and be sure to post pictures of you're carbine.

Well I have been lurking for sometime now. I have not registered, I have just been reading and reading until yesterday. I finally bit the bullet today and ordered my first AR today.

I got the SOPMOD stock. They didn't mention anything about a 2 stage trigger.

Do they make a red dot that has magnification? I thought all red dots were for CQB. Is that wrong?

OK, got it today (pics to come)

Here is my newest list of problems. It came with 30 round magazines and my FFL would not give them to me since they are illegal in NJ. Does anyone know where I can get some 15 round ones?

Second, is there a way to "unpin" the collapsible stock? To be NJ compliant the collapsible stock is pinned and fixed in the fully extended position. I haven't fired it yet (so that position might be fine) but if I wanted to shorten it up is that possible?

It's good to see that you're keeping BRD alive in the ban states. It is also good that LMT is involved in keeping you guys as poor as the rest of us.

Great choice, have fun dressing her up.
