What type of ammo is used?  If they are reloads are you using hard military primers?  Soft primers tend to cause slam firing.

First, triple check all the parts are installed correctly. Springs not backward, nothing missing, etc.
Second, if he doesn't intend to replace the components and is going to test-fire it, do it somewhere far away from people or in a very lightly populated range. The safest course of action would be to just replace everything and still follow this advice, but up to him. Just remember the ATF is full of pathetic bastards.

make sure the diconnector is good and not damaged or flawed, likewise with the hammer. change ammo, maybe soft primers. make sure your firing pin isnt bad. make sure your pins dont 'walk out' during fire causing the hammer not to catch the disco.
