I"ve been running a M261 clone for years. Love it. Mine came from Olympic Arms. They work best with round nose ammo and either a 1:12 or 1:9 twist, With 1:9 twist and CCI Mini-Mags I can get 1" groups at 25 yards - making it suitable for practicing. My son gives it two thumbs up!

| I looked into this a couple weeks ago and came to the conclusion that the converter will work but a dedicated upper was the better and of course more expensive route to go. I looked at the Ceiner (online) and a dedicated upper from Model 1 Sales in person. I started putting pencil to paper and realized I could buy a Ruger 10/22, 4,000 rounds of ammo and a dozen high cap mags for it and still have money left over compared to buying a dedicated upper. As usual it just boils down to money. Hope this helps... |
No it can't damage it. However prolonged use of the kit w/o cleaning can lead to leading in the barrel and a plugged up gas block. Both can be cleaned out (the barrel is easier to clean the gas block) but the situation isn't a terminal failure. IMHO just fire a few .223 rounds after a few hundred .22 LR, then give the rifle a good bore scrubbing and your good to go. That carbine in the pic with my son has 1000's of rounds of .22 LR through it (with the periodic cleaning mentioneed above) and it still shoots 5.56 just fine. |

I am running a Ciener kit on a Colt SP1(1/12 twist) & a Bushmaster Carbine (1/9 twist) and have not had any problems with leading at all. I use 40 gr. Mini-Mags and Federal Bulk Packs( All plated) in them. I run about 200 rds. through them and then fire a couple of 5.56's. The only problem I have is the POI is about 4-6 MOA right (depending on which rifle)at 25Meters,elevation is dead on though on both. |
