Hey ya'll, I've ordered a Sun Devil stripped lower, and plan on installing a 2-stage NM trigger. The quandry I have is which length upper to put on it. I want to make a long distance shooter, with a bipod and hi-power scope. These are the RRA A4 Varmint upper half's I'm looking at; http://www.rockriverarms.com/popup.cfm?type=i&id=products/uva408.gif At this time, I'm debating on the 18" or 20", each has a 1:8 twist. My questions are; will I gain much with the additional 2" from the 18 to the 20, which will balance better, and what grain bullets should work the best with the 1:8 twist. |

I shoot a 24" varmint type rifle out to the 1K line and it's really helpful when making suggestions to folks to "actually" know what "YOUR" intended "range" for this varmint upper will be..... Under 500 yards the added 2" will do you no good - past 500 yards you might want the added velocity of the 20" As to the "ammunition" to use? this is well covered by the Ammo Faq Tacked to the top of the Ammunition Forum , which I suggest you go read BEFORE spending a dime. mike |
| My friend just went through the same thing that your going through. He decided to go with the shorter length because it is more maneuverable. If your just talking about range use, then either will work. His always in the woods, in and out of his truck shooting at coyotes. So the shorter length was a bigger factor to him. |
