I used this product on handguns and bolt rifles many years ago when I lived in Phoenix.   I doubt the days of walking in and chatting with Robbie are long over though.

It was/is an incredible product but I never used it on something like an AR15 BCG which is what I am considering.    My SBR project is well on its way with all parts in my or my dealers (barrel) possession but it will be quite a while before the stamp arrives.   Sooo.... I am thinking about sending my BCG to Robar for NP-3.

Has anyone done this?

Compare it to Ion Bond if you could.   I had not heard of Ion Bond before a few months ago and don't know much about it.

Anyone had an ENTIRE AR15 NP3 plated? That would be interesting.

Had the BCG NP3'd on my duty COLT 6920 a few years ago, best thing I did to that rifle.  4K rounds and no problems.

Judging by how "slick" everyone says it is- they may not be able to hold onto it

I had ROBAR NP3 a BCG.  I can recommend the bolt carrier, and maybe the bolt itself, but DO NOT NP3 THE EXTRACTOR.  Even with XP springs, the black insert, and a Defender D-ring, the extractor was just too slick to hold onto the cases and caused a lot of extraction problems.

I talked to the folks at DSA at the SHOT Show about the NP3 parts they were putting in their rifles.  They said that they had found that there are some parts that you just should not have coated.  I said, let me guess, the extractor.

Thanks Rabbit.

That is rather good information to have!

NP3 is a nickle/PTFE composite.  It is not as hard or tough as Ionbond but will be slicker and more corrosion resistant.  LWRC carriers come from the factory with this type of finish.  I like it in my rifle.  My bolt is stainless so no need to coat it and since it is already so much tougher than the steel in standard bolts and it is corrosion reistant, there is no need to coat it IMO and the two colors match nicely anyway.

Called Robar a few weeks ago, it will run you $135.00 to have a complete BCG NP3'd.
I have had a slide and internals for a pistol NP3'd and love the stuff. I did not send the BCG out yet. Bought a Young NM BCG instead. Maybe the next build.

Thanks for the advice.

I already had a chromed DPMS bolt carrier in one of my other rifles so I swapped them. (But not the bolts.)

I spent the money I would have used for the NP-3 for a pistol lower.

I'll probably try the NP-3 in the future but I'm G2G for now.

I have two rifles with NP3'd BCG's and they clean up great.

This is the first one I did and I use it in my three gun rifle, it has never failed.
