I live in a state that 'bans' assault rifles, although by observing the strict letter of the law it is possible to own an AR-15.  If, however, God forbid, one should ever wind up in court having used a weapon in, say, a home defense situation, it would be nice if "exhibit A" for the prosecution looked less like something owned by Rambo and more like something owned by Davy Crockett.  Realizing that an AR is an AR, what is the most sporting possible configuration least likely to make an east coast liberal jury think psycho-killer?  Does anyone build a walnut-stock AR?  Or is something like a Les Baer match rifle as good as it gets as a 'sportsman's' configuration?

Thanks for the opinions.  I'm a longtime reader, first post though.  I've searched the forums but not found this discussion anywhere previously.

Possibly a National Match Model with Green Furniture......then find a local club that shoots National Match's and enter the Service Rifle catagory.....very legitimante reason to own the AR-15.

Not really an AR, but Remington makes a pump action rifle that uses AR magazines. Its based on the 870 shotgun design.

That or a - forgive me - Mini 14

Turns out Mayor Bloomberg is afraid of making any guns "look innocent" - he wants them to look as "evil as possible!"

Just resign yourself to using something else to fend off boarders at 4:00 AM; say, a nice flintlock blunderbuss...just keep  your powder dry.
Reserve the AR for fun or for a real, Katrina-like SHTF scenario.
