| I just purchased my first AR and a few extras and I am looking to make my first trip to the range this weekend. Is there anything that I need to do before I shoot my AR for the first time? |

Open it up and LOOK at everything. Take pictures if you can. Study all the areas that are "wet". Look at the color of the parts. The first lesson I was taught about a new gun is to examine it in an unfired state to know what the build up and junk looks like after it is fired. It also helps to look at it before you say, "was that crack always there?" or "is that something I did?" |

+1 clean & lube since it's your firt AR I'd suggest you to download and print one of those M16/M4 manuals available HERE...they will help you clear mafunctions and zeroing your AR |
And some people say if its chrome lined don't worry about it and shoot it. That is just what I've heard... since I'm in the same situation as you.... first time at range with new AR next week. |

Lube her up with some break free CLP, the night before, make sure you go over the manual that came with whatever optics you purchased and be familiar with the process of zeroing them. go over the weapon manipulations you will have to do (loading/unloading etc...) and have fun. does your range have a sandbag? that can up to stabilize the weapon if you dont have much time on a gun, if you do then im sure your good on that part of it. |
