I noticed that with the mrp they sell 6.8 barrels, what does it take to run 6.8 through a regular upper other than the barrel and does it easily switch back and forth from 5.56 and 6.8.

You might try asking in the "Rifles, Uppers, Lowers, Barrels, and more" or "AR Variants" Forums from the main AR15 communities link. I think you will get a faster response to your question in one of those forums.

There was a police review site that mentioned that other than the known 5.56 and 6.8 availablity that it was also available in 7.62, 204, and some other 5 something that i did not recognize, i was not aware of this nor have I seen anything about this on the lmt site.

I have an MRP upper. Right now 5.56, 6.8, and 204 is it as your chioces. It's the creme de la creme of billet uppers in my opinion. That said, if you're just coming out of college I'd think hard about a more standard setup and getting exotic from there. Colt and LMT would be a great foundation to future formats. If you really want something exotic, maybe you should think about the bushmaster acr.

why wouldn't i just want an mrp right off the bat? I don't need anything exotic I'm an ar fan and have been for a few years now and instead of having multiple ar's with different chamberings i'm going for an all in one. Also As I said I'm going to ocs and i'll be an infantry officer so i might as well continue with a platform. I guess i'm just wondering why I would avoid an mrp because i'm just coming out of college?

Get the MRP...I have a number of AR's and the MRP CQB was the last one that I purchased.  If I had to do it all over again I would buy the MRP and a few different caliber barrels and that is it.  I love the MRP...can't wait for the piston kit...

Get the MRP!

This upper will satisfy nearly all your wants.  With a monolithic quad rail system you won't be stuck with a lack of room for your optics and you will have a spot for everything you need from VG, to lights, to iron sights, etc.  With it you clearly have good caliber options available and soon a piston option.  I don't care to think about how much I spent trying to convert my basic upper to an equivalent CQB setup and was never quite satisfied.  Since owning the MRP I have not had that urge to upgrade like I had with all my BM uppers.  The MRP price dropped about a month ago, so now you can save a couple of hundred dollars on one.  It's my opinion that you would be making a sound investment and intelligent decision in buying one.

I think i'm going to get the full rifle length and stick to the 16 and 18 inch barrels and i wonder if the 14.5 inch would fit? the 14.5 inch barrels and below require you to deal with the nfa taxes and what not right?
