Hi, I'm a noob, but I've been lurking here for a long time... My question: I want to built an AR with a collapsable buttstock. I want to install a normal sling, so I want a buttstock with a sling loop. The plastic 4-6-position stocks I've seen all have these (I'm leaning towards CMMG), but the aluminum CAR stocks don't. Right? I've heard reports of some (most?) collapsable stocks rattling, wiggling, etc. I don't want this. Is there some brand/model that I should avoid or look for? Money is an issue, so I'm a lot more inclined towards $75 stocks than $200 stocks, but I don't want to spend $275 ultimately one bad stock and one good stock, either. TIA, Ben |

so your requirements are: no rattling, low cost, sling mounting options... i'd go for the Magpul CTR. the complete kit (w/ milspec receiver ext) runs about $140, they lock up tight (thanks to a friction lock), and they have a slot for a standard sling as well as a mounting point for a QD sling swivel. i am a big fan of the CTR on general purpose carbines... |

If you want a rock-solid telestock then look at the CTR. It won't be $75, but it won't be $200 either. You are correct in that newer M4 'Waffle' style stocks have a standard fixed stock type sling loop, while the orginal CAR Aluminum and Fiberlite stocks did not. Standard telestocks all have some 'wiggle' - better units (like Colt/CMT) tend to have less also new stocks tend to have less than older/well used stocks. A strip or two of electrical tape on the receiver extension can help cut down on the wiggle- but a CTR stock will prevent it outright. |

Thanks, you've summed up my criteria better than I did! I'd seen the MagPul CTR, and I've seen them listed for $90-95 (mil-spec), but they didn't have the sling loop installed. I'd have to buy the buffer tube, spring, and buffer separately, right? Am I right to assume that installing a sling loop would be easy? Thank you for your help with my dumb questions, Ben |
