I am having an issue with my AR-15.  I was at the range and had a problem.  I had a case fail to extract.  ALong with this, the bolt is stuck partially out of the bolt carrier.  The bolt/carrier will move back and forth in the upper reciever.  The bolt is stuck out far enough that I cannot seperate the lower from the upper.  I can pull the pins and seperate them, but the back of the bolt carrier is still inside the stock.  The upper will not clear the lower.  I have tried taking a dewey cleaning rod and driving the spent shell out but no joy.  I did not use extreme force, just enough to really whack it.

How do I get the bolt to retract back inside the carrier so that I can seperate the upper and lower?  Any ideas on the shell casing?

Thanks!

Have you cleaned the bolt and extractor since you last shot the rifle?  Did you try using a different magazine?

Yes I did clean it right after the last time I was out.  Any idea how to get the bolt back into the carrier or seperate the 2 halves?  Any idea what might have happened?

What kind of ammo were you using?

Is the cartridge still in?

If so, Grab your cleaning rod, stick it in the muzzle and pop it out. Already tried this? Try it again.
