I have an opportunity to do some trading for an AR one is a DPMS with a free floating picatiny foreguard the other is an OLy. arms both have detachable carry handles and colapsable stocks. Also both are new guns. This will be my first AR. Thanks for the info. |
No, the key word being had. Been around the block multiple times with them and out of spec parts. Learned my lesson and now I try to prevent others from having to learn the hard, stupid and expensive way I did. I do still have two lowers, both with out of spec grip screw holes. Have had a barrel with no gas port. This was barrel number two after the first one was just the wrong barrel to begin with, Scope rings with bad threads on the cap screw holes and more I am not going to watse my time typing up. When you hassle people for having a beef with Oly, don't, as there is usually a very valid reason for it. I am glad you like yours but remember, that a lot can change in 23 years. They are junk these days, plain and simple. |

I have never had a complete olympic arms AR, but I did have a DPMS AR kit built on an olympic stripped lower. I never had any problems, except once with some of my reloads. Other wise it fed everything I gave it ammo wise, usually into small little groups. Of the two I would go with the DPMS but I happen to like their stuff. |

Make sure the DPMS is not a kit gun. If it has a "K" in the serial number it was not assembled by them and you'll get an unpleasant surprise if you call them for a warranty claim. Also, make sure you know which barrel you are getting. The 5.56 chamber will shoot .223 and 5.56 but the .223 won't shoot 5.56. Of the two, I'd go DPMS in a heartbeat providing there's no "K" in the serial number and it's a 5.56. J. |
