so what does it mean if you buy a mag for an AR (brownells or Magpull in this case) and it will fit in your gun empty with but not loaded?  Do you have to pull the bolt back on all AR's to lock the mag in place?

Try one less round.

Slap the hell out of the mag to get it to lock

You can fit it into a rifle loaded It just takes a little more effort.

The bolt actually drags on the brass when you pull it back.

what about filing the latch point to get the mag to drop a little?

On my ARs the bolt has to locked back in order for the mag to lock in place. I'm assuming this is the case for all ARs considering both of mine are this way but I could be wrong. I've never tried jamming or using to much force to find out otherwise.
