| Has anybody used the bushmaster retro kit. I understand it is an Ares kit. Whats the differnce between the retro kit and the bushmaster entire upper already to go? Which do you guys think is more reliable? Thanks |
The uppers are POF uppers I think. Id rather have the retro fit because it has a spring for return of the push rod, and you can always switch it back. I had the Ares GSR for a short time, and I really liked it. |
I could be wrong, but I also read that they were Ares. Bill |
The retro fits for BFI are the ares gsr. |
The GSR used a steel bushing that you put inside the upper to guide the push rod, but I don't know if the upper will allow you to put the bushing in. I don't think it would stay put. |
| Sorry if i dont understand but are you saying that becus its steel bushing it may not work well in the Carbon15.? Sorry just confused and trying to learn. My local gun shop has told me that the they heard bad things about bushmaster gas piston setups, but there are the only bad remarks i have heard, every other post i read said their bushmaster gas piston upper worked good. I already own the bushmaster carbon but i havent shot it so i was thinking to sell it becus i am set on the gas piston setup. I dont want to regret it later but i would like to have a bushmaster plus have the gas piston system.. Damm this is hard to decide!! Anybody who owns a bushmaster gas piston upper or the retro kit please give me your opinion? thankyou guys |
If you bought a Carbon 15 why would you then start caring about reliability? Solution in search of a problem? |

The current gas piston systems on the M16/AR15 are fairly new. People are still arguing over features on the original 40+ year old design, much less the conversion from DI to piston. You will get a lot of different opinions on DI vs Piston, you will also get a lot of different opinions on the various piston system being currently made. None of the current piston systems have much time on them in end user use. So while there are quality manufacturers involved, only time will tell what shakes out to be the best piston setup. |
