My department wishes to 'convert' a few 16's to semi-auto only for issue to their officer.  I remember seeing a blocking device that goes on the outside that prevents the selector switch from moving to full-auto.  Anyone know where these can be bought or have any other suggestions for the conversion?  I checked Brownells-can't seem to find it in their search.

Thanks in advance.

Don't know about the switch blocker but I have several semi-auto lowers and I would be willing to trade them even

You could just replace all the FA selectors with semi-auto selectors.

Cheaper idea he just gave you. I'd go that way.

+1.  Or just pull the auto sear and replace the FCG with semi parts.  A whole lot better than some kludged hunk of metal or plastic sitting on the outside of your lower getting in the way.

Also safer.  The switch blocker was just a flat piece secured by tightening the grip screw and pinching the flat of the item bvetween the grip and the frame.  It's removable in about 32 seconds, leaving you with the original select fire.

If your department is serious about taking the full auto capability out of your pieces, DPMS makes a kit that rplaces all the M16 parts with the semi pieces. Your armorer can change over a given rifle in 20-30 minutes, and you'll be left w/a piece that can't be reconverted in the blink of an eye.

Most dept's just remove the auto parts & replace with semi parts. You must retain the auto parts, however, & place them somewhere with the correlating ser# from the gun that the parts were removed from.

we used to have them on our rifles, little metal widget that physically blocked the selector from going to the group therapy setting. we don't use em anymore, but I've seen a few bags of them floating around.

how many rifles do you need to equip?

We got ours from a three letter organization. They were from their old Colt SMG's. As far as  your guys removing them you simply put it in policy that the weapons will not be modified. We've had no problems and have a lot of M-16 A1's in the field.

If your department is really concerned with patrol officers going to FA, let them know those goofy blocks break off with very little effort.  I have used M16'S with them installed before and all you have to do is bend it with your thumb and they snap off.  If they want a full proof method, go with the majority of the advice and swap parts.
