I just ran into some cash. I'm torn between the two. I hear nothing but positive things about them both.

I don't really need the battery compartment on the modstock, but I hear the cheek weld is awesome and worth it even if you don't use the battery compartment. I figure once I get one or the either, I can slide the stock I didn't choose over the existing stock tube thingy from the one I do buy.

I've heard the CTR is solid as a rock though. How is the cheek weld on it?

How does weight compare with the two?

Which is more comfortable?

FEED MEE!

If you don't need the battery compartment, you might as well get the CTR.  It locks up tight.  Both will rip you beard out.  I also prefer a 6 position tube with either stock, just personal preference.

The CTR is a little longer when collapsed, even without the rubber pad.  The new Vltor modstock is a little longer than the old one, so there may not be as much of a difference.

Does anyone have any experience with both?

I have both.  The CTR locks tighter.  The Vltor has lots of battery compartments.  For SHTF, I choose batteries

I also have both CTR, Modstocks (std carbine and club foot models) and the new EMOD.

I use my CTR on my home defense carbine because I don't need a good cheek weld or battery storage (I got a couple of batteries in my Magpul MIAD grip), it's rock solid like a solid A1/ A2 stock.

My Modstock/ EMOD are on my general purpose carbine mainly for SHTF which I use mostly outdoors, short range up to 100 - 200 yds, I like it's long length and well designed buttpad of my EMOD.

The weight difference of the CTR and Modstocks are not noticeable but the EMOD is the heaviest but very tough.

The Vltor are hands down more comfortable.

With good reason. Both are designed by guys who know what they are doing. Both are as good as it gets. Another good choice would be the LMT SOPMOD. Between the three, it really would just come down to user preference as your not going to go wrong either way. I know that probably doesnt help much in making a decision though.

I have to agree. I have one AR with the VLTOR Standard Collapsible Modstock, one with the Clubfoot Collapsible Modstock, and one with the MAGPUL CTR. All three work very well. The new CTR, whenever it comes out, will work simpler than the existing model. I still want to try  the new VLTOR EMOD. I also have a MAGPUL UBR stock on order for my next build.

I have a VLTOR clubfoot and the cheel weld is great. It will grab facial hair as someone noted. It is a pretty sturdy stock and the battery compartments are nice to have. I will buy the same stock again, when the need arises.

I have not owned a CTR.
