I've read about people staking Castle Nuts, Thinking about it brings up three questions: 1) How do you do it? 2) Is it permanent? 3) Isn't Loctite good enough? Thanks! |

Look at the castle nut from overhead w/ the rifle in the upright position. U should see an indentation. Using a punch and a dead blow hammer -- wack it at moderate strength. It should displace enough metal to cause the castle nut to stay put under repeated fire. It is not permanent. U can get the castle nut off w/ out doing damage. Blue locktite is not enough. I have 2 AR's that I have not staked because in their role -- kids and my BS shooters it dosent matter if the castle nut gets a little loose. I do check it though. I would say torqued w/ the proper wrench it will begin to work loose after the 1k round mark. Mine did. |
