Alright, I'm hoping to trade some stuff to get some lowers. Anyway, given the choice, which lower would you rather have to build on and why? Thanks |
|
I'd go with RRA, MEGA, or Sabre. I like the plain rollmarks on the Sabre. The finish on the RRA matches most uppers. Mega's look pretty, but they have a unique texture and color. They really only match a MEGA upper (which are very hard to find) If I were refinishing or had a MEGA upper, I'd go MEGA. If I didnt want a logo, I'd go Sabre. RRA is generic and quality. |
Sabre doesn't make my list of "name brand" lowers, even at the bottom. To me, "name brand" lowers are the ones that the average guy who has only a passing familiarity with ARs would recognize. Colt, Bushmaster, and Armalite are clearly "name brand" lowers. DPMS and RRA are borderline "name brand" lowers. I doubt most shooters outside the internet gun community have ever even heard of Sabre. I'm not knocking Sabre, just the way I see it. To the OP, I'd go with RRA from your list. |
The very tight upper to lower fit on my RRA went away after a few hundred rounds. The result was a perfect fit. |

I voted DPMS, mainly because you said "lowers" as in I'm gonna build a few. I've got 2 dpms lowers that are flawless and have went together real well, but I've also put a couple of cmmg lowers together too that have been 100%. Really all the lowers listed are good, Polytech |
What eliminated the Mega for you? I'v eused Mega before, and while the quality is outstanding, I had one of the ones with a tight magwell. Kind of made me a little leery. I've built on Ameetec, Mega, and RRA. I have a Sabre upper (16" middy) and the qualilty is outstanding. |
