First off i would like to say what a great site.............This is my first post and my first AR. I would like to start off by saying i did a search and did not come up with my answers. I am ready to purchase a AR. I went to my local shop where i was going to get a Olympic K16. I did not like the fit or finish of the rilfes they had, all in all I would say they were kind shooottttyyy! So i was off to the drawing board again, then i found the DPMS Sweet 16 on line what a great lookin rifle, but i can not find much for reviews on it anywhere on the net. i am going to use this as my primary paraire doggin and coyote gun, i found one on the net nib for 830.00 shipped. should i just buy it or put my own together or perhaps a differnt brand? My biggest problem is I cannot hold it before i commit to it, plus i can not judge accuracy as i cannot find any reviews. thanks in advance.......................................justin |

Justin A DPMS sweet 16 was my first AR. They are accurate but quite heavy, and mine has a fluted barrel. I have used it Prairie Dog and Coyote hunting and the weight can be an issue. Mine has been 100% reliable and honestly....I have beat the heck out of it. I have gone through 30 round mags as fast as I can with laquered Wolf ammo and not had any problems. Heck, I didn't clean the chamber for the first two years I had it. All that said, it doesn't see much shooting time since I bought a couple of lighter profile guns. |
| I dont have the sweet 16 but as a testement to DPMS quality there great rifles. I have owned 2 bushmasters in the past a M4 and 20" HBAR and the DPMS is by far the best out of all 3. It has functioned flawlessly which I cant say for the 2 Bushies. Both bushmasters would short cycle or have other problems if the lub wasnt just so. With the DPMS I wiped it clean of oil and fired 60 rounds through it just to see if it was a general AR thing or not and to my suprise the DPMS performed perfectly with all 60 rnds and no lubricant. So I am sold on DPMS and am looking forward to owning one of there .308's. I would trade a little extra weight for reliability any day. |
Long story short. Ordered two "Panther Bull 20" rifles. One was mine, one was a friend's. Both had a number of problems, mine were: Poor upper/lower fit. Leak gas excessively at the gas block. Soft firing pin, was distorted by contact w/hammer. The hole in the bolt for the extractor pin was drilled too far inboard; the extractor didn't have any room to move (rifle needed a new bolt before it could be fired). DPMS lied about the HiRider upper having a shell deflector and about the rifle having hard coat anodizing. After calling to get them to fix the issues/problems, I was told that the rifles were custom orders and DPMS would not warranty/replace/refund them. |
As am I. I have had NO issues with my AP4 at all. About 4000 rounds now. Buy with confidence. |
| Ok so i am going to buy the dpms. what are the must have upgrades? I am sure it will need a trigger kit of some sorts, what else? I have a few highly modified 10/22's and some pistols, also i ordered my scope last night, i got i Nikon buckmaster 6x18x40 side focus with the BDC |
Dont be fooled he's what they call a closet DPMS lover...
