Hello. I'd appreciate any input to help me make my final decision on an A.R.M.S. model 50C or 50M free float handguards. I realize the 50M is for "Military" and the C model is the Civilian one. From what I gather at their website, you need to dremel off the Delta ring ( + weld spring ) for the Military model to mount to the barrel nut as well as the top of the upper. The instructions for the "Civilian" model are a little more vague ( well, for me ). I assume the civi set-up leaves all hardware in place, so how exactly does it achieve a strong, free float mount? Does the forward mounting section just clamp over the Delta ring? I know the rear attachment point is still the same clamp to the rail set-up as the Mil. model. Any experience with either model would greatly be appreciated. I am sold on getting this make ( ARMS #50 ), but want to make the right choice as these are a little pricey. Pro's and cons to each? Lastly, where might I find the best deal on this? Seems like everyone is wanting to charge the full list price of $369.00 Whose got the goods for the best $$$??Thanks in advance. |

To be completely honest. I'd first try and talk you out of either of the ARMS units. They're kind of heavy, a bit bulky, and there are better options available. Barring any success at that, I'd tell you to check the EE for a used model to save money. For that kind of cash (~$360) you could buy any foreend from any of the manufacturers. My first choice is Daniel Defense with LaRue in a close second. Between the M and C versions, as you've stated, the Civilian model does not require removal of the delta ring. The Mil model may be a bit narrower, but the only experience I've had is with the C model. |

Both do the same thing, the 50M and the 50C. Don't get caught up in the MILITARY model. If you don't want to cut off your delta ring assembly then get the "C" model. I really like the SIR systems but you can get lighter rails that are just as good if not better for much less money. ARMS has a way of pricing themselves out of competition with their pricing on their rails. They also sell a slim version of their rails with some models so you may want to look for those also. I suggest looking at MSP + for reference photos. |
Much appreciate the advice, and a big thanks to ar15pistolero![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for the tip on the EE. I've been watching for awhile, but all things come to those that wait
