I have two BCG that in my opinion the gas key is not staked properly i.e. shot pinged. Where can I send these out to have the staking done properly. Anyone else had this service done before.

Thanks in advance,

If you have access to a vise, a hammer and a chisel you can do it yourself.

Do not use a chisel. At least not a chisel in it’s standard configuration as a chisel.

The whole purpose of staking the gas key is to prevent the screws from working loose. This is done by displacing carrier key metal against the screw heads.

A chisel is simply too sharp and will not displace the metal but cut through it ruining your gas key.

If you have a spare chisel laying around that you won’t mind sacrificing, you can grind or file flat the tip making it suitable for carrier key staking. Some members here have done the same, modifying a cheap flat-tip screwdriver.

Here you go.

Some guys use a tool like the MOACKS or Pocket MOACKS AR15 carrier key staker from Michiguns.

I am going to reply, but I am picking up my first AR tomorrow so I am covering my ass, this is a whole new world to me.If it is not properly staked you can take the allen bolts out right? If you can take them out why not just loctite them and screw them back into the gas key mount?

believe it or not, just loctite wont hold. the heat will get to it and cause the loctite to fail.

Shot-peening and staking are two totally different things.  If you just want it staked properly and don't want to mess with it yourself, I'm pretty sure Denny's will still do it for you (Global Tactical).
