| Is it possible to remove my A-Frame frontsite gasblock, and replace it with a Flattop Gasblock? I have been getting mixed messages amongst friends who say that its permanently attached and others who say its not. |

The gas block is definetly not permanent, I am guessing whoever said that doesn't own an AR .Tap out the two pins holding it on. Tap out the pin holding the gas block to the gas tube. Remove the muzzle device and slide off the gas block. Slide on your new gas block. Re-insert the gas tube pin. The new gas block will come with screws or someother way to secure it, so put the screws on. Re-attach the muzzle device and your golden. BTW: Make sure the hole on your gas tube is pointed down!!! This link shows part of the steps, scroll down a bit: ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=226782 |

Will the gasblock slip off the business end of the barrel or the receiver side? IE, in order to do this, will I have to unscrew the barrel from the AR15? I also have a Flashhider at the end, will I have to unscrew that if the gasblock is going out through the business end of the barrel? |
to remove the FSB, you have to pop out the 2 lower taper pins that hold it in after the FSB is loose, the only way to slip it off is through the front, heading towards the muzzle end obviously, there is more than likely a muzzle device of some sort at the muzzle end, in your case, a flashider; the muzzle device HAS to be removed (this involves vicing your bbl/upper into a proper armory's block and bench vice, and using eihter a wrench or AR armory's wrench to remove the FH) after removing the FH, the loose FSB should slip off another option: dremel off the FSB, use a 2 piece clamp on gas block |
| Just removed my first FSB on my RRA. The pins were not tapered on the RRA and were a bitch to get out. Be sure to support the FSB I don't know if it's possible to tweak the barrel by hammering on the pins but I did it for 'just in case'. I also found that many recommend brass punches. That may work well on tapered pins but not on straight ones. I just bent the brass one, so I got out my Snap On roll pin punches and drove them home. The steel punch will destroy the finish on the end of the pins but it gets them out. Just take your time and lube the barrel before you slide the FSB off. Once you do one you'll see that is is very easy. |
