I have a 14.5 flattop with a FFS that I want to mount a scope on. First time for me with this type of confioguration and low and behold when I went to mount the scope I found it was too low and the front sight is in the way.

I'm thinking I either need higher rings or something they sell that raises the whole flaptop up an inch or so?

Can someone tell me the correct way to mount this and what hardware I need?

Thanks in advance!

you'll need some high, or extra high rings
to get it above the front iron sight, it will be too high to be able to get a good cheek weld.
I started out like this:

The best thing to do is get a low profile gas block

What power is your scope.  I can't see my FSB on 2x with my leupy.

look through the scope, and rotate your rifle side to side, you should be able to see the front sight.

ARMS sells a mount (#63) that lifts the scope and its mounts about 3/4 inch.  That way you can use lower rings (say on your M1A) and still use the scope on your AR.  It has QR throw levers.  Not especially pretty with the levers an so forth, but highly functional.

I'll have to try that.

Get slightly taller rings to get the proper cheek weld and don't worry about the FSB being in the way.   You will not see it when you look through the scope.  I like the Armalite 1-piece scope mount because it's just the right height for a flat-top receiver and also allows you to mount the scope further forward to get the proper eye relief.  La Rue also makes on e that is similiar but much pricier.  Here's a link to the Armalite unit.

I have a rock river arms 1 piece mount. The front sight is in the way but you do not see it.
