[ARCHIVED THREAD] - First build issues.

I have just finished everything there is to the build process. I was at the last step mating the upper to the lower. It comes together perfect and looks great. Now for the problem. The magazine will not catchunless I slam it home and then I struggle to get it out. I have interchanged both the upper and lower with another AR that I own and everything works fine. When I looked close the upper semas to overlap the lower inthe front. This is looking down the magazine well. I will post pictures later tonight. Has anybody had a similar problem?

What type of upper? What type of lower? Some manufacurers are not a precise in boring their holes for the take down and pivot pins.

Somebody might be along with a technical explanation soon enough - I don't know that. But I have built several ARs and what you describe has been common when they're just-put-together new and, for me anyway, goes away with a little use.

ETA - I meant the having to really slap a mag home.

Try inserting a magazine with the receivers seperated, that will eliminate a bad magwell as a problem.

By overlap, do you mean that the upper and lower receivers do not align??

If so by how much and in what manner; right-left, forward-rearward, up-down?

The upper is aft of the lower and only in the front. Both the upper and lower are RRA. I was hopeing to but the same to avoid this.

I can insert the magazine allday long with it seperted.

Contacting RRA may be the only solution.

I have an RRA also, and most of the time I have to encourage my mags to lock in also. And I even have to pull on one of my mags to get it out, but thats only one out of my five. (I know I need more mags) I thought this was a normal occurance?

I have another RRA and the magazine slips out like butter. The other issue is when I have to slam the mag. in it screws up the bolt catch.

I had that happen with a CMMG upper to a Stag lower. I hate grinding shit so I bought another lower from DPMS and fits perfect.

I have been thinking about that all night, buying a DPMS lower. Maybe this lower will work on another upper.

Are you inserting the magazine with the bolt forward, or locked to the rear??

Tried both ways. I was usiing a magpul mag and a steel one. The magpul works better due to being plastic. When I try to slam the metal one in I can see on the magazine where its hitting. And it looks to be right where the the pictures are showing.

I talked to RRA this week and am sending the lower back. The minute I gave them the serial number I had a RMA#.
