I’m new to this form and very excited to finally purchase a S&W  AR-15 I’ve been a hand gun fanatic for 30 years now but getting a little bored so I went to my local To pick up my new Glock 21 SF So while I was waiting for the paperwork I had to hold a AR 15 in my hand (big mistake) I don’t know the first thing about them but they look like fun toy. I had my heart set on an S&W M&P 15. But I’m very bad about making decisions on impulse so I went home with my Glock 21SF and laid in bed thinking about the AR 15 most of that night and the next day. I had a Sig Equinox P229 that I love but I already have another 229 DAK, so if they were give me a decent price for my Equinox I thought I would make up the difference. It wasn’t as bad as I thought they gave me a $700.00 trade in and I put up another $370. For a $1200.00 rifle. Since I am new to the AR-15 world how is Smith & Wesson 15 compared to other company’s? And is there any thing I should replace. I added an AR riser to mount a Bushnell Tactical scope so far.

The M&P is as good or better that any on the market.  Enjoy the new toy.

Note: There are some that will not take the Magpul P-mag, so before you buy any, make sure they fit. This was due to the bevel on the front of the magwell being too small.

Edit your post heading for spelling. There is no "m" in the word question.

Don't let it happen again.
Oh, and welcome to the cult.

It shoots better than my spelling.  I just purchased an AR riser and a Bushnell Elite 3200 5-15x40 Tactical scope for now. Next I would like to get a LaRue Tactical 7.0" Hand guard or something less expensive so I can attach a Streamlight TL-2 laser light  from .I also read that 5.56 Ammo is different than .223 Ammo so I should stick to 5.55 is this correct?

I just tried iron sights for now at 50 yards and within 2” group, I just added the Tactical scope the other day and going out to a range later today to see what I can do.

ammo-oracle

Click on the link, scroll down the page a bit, there is a good explaination on the difference.  General rule of thumb is that you can run both 5.56 and 223 in a 5.56 chamber, but only 223 in a 223 chamber.

Check your barrel, the chambering should be stamped on it somewhere.

NICE looking rifle, the S&W's I've seen look great.

That’s what I’m afraid of I just spent $600.00 scope, $250.00 on a Tactical laser light , $75.00 on a cheap case and next I want a front grip with mounts for more gadgets
I thought handguns were expensive. it’s a good thing the bullets are cheap

Glock 19,22,23,27,32,33. And a Glock 21SF awesome gun, S&W Sigma (Junk) S&W M&PC .40,Beretta PX4 Storm .40,  Sig Sauer P229 and later a Sig P229R Equinox (loved it ) Traded and sold so many to satisfy my fix on guns but my greatest long time obsessions has always been a AR -15 so I sold my two favorite guns and purchased a S&W M&P 15. I’m not sure about the scope thing yet,  I wanted a red dot scope but wanted magnification so I just got a great tactical scope for starters .very confusing on how to fine tune a tactical scope, I did great at 50 yards today but exceeded to 100 yards. I was shooting high and to the left, not to late to take it back and get something else
