OK, so here is my first range report. My Bushmaster has stock internals, 16" heavy fluted barrel, and an Eotech 512f. I was using Plain old Wolf 55 grain and was set out to 100 yards. My "bench" was a pretty rickety portable bbq stand. I haven't shot these rifles very much and I have never used a "dot" type optic at all. So, now that all of my excuses are out of the way :) ... I only had time to get off 100 rounds. I had 4 mags with 20 in each. the first two mags I was hitting paper. Almost all of them on paper, but I feel I was moving a little too much. I had to adjust the Eotech a little (about 2" left on target) and try to stabilize the bench with some more weight. After that, my accuracy improved. I don't know how well I am shooting compared to everyone else here, but I was happy. Here is my last target and some rifle pics. 19 of 20 on the black. I wanted to see if I could get off 2 quick shots at a time, so I shot about half of these in real quick succession. I think I could do a lot better with a more stable shooting surface. let me know what you think and how I may try to improve. http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii213/docholiday29/CIMG3708.jpg http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii213/docholiday29/CIMG3735.jpg http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii213/docholiday29/CIMG3721.jpg http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii213/docholiday29/CIMG3722.jpg http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii213/docholiday29/CIMG3719.jpg http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii213/docholiday29/CIMG3717.jpg |
| Is a Cabelas XPG X-treme 500 lumen. It's $129.99 so I picked it up for coyote hunting. I have more pics of it disassembled on this post: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=20&t=357502. It looks very well made and feels solid. Plus it's rechargeable! So far with over 200 rounds fired with it on I haven't had it fail at all. |
Made the link hawt! |

I hate to ruin your day, but this photo is the first outing with a new Rock River 20" Varmit shot at 100 yds. off a Harris bipod. The scope is an old Weaver T-16. First group of five to adjust the scope is top center, then center main target, then upper and lower small targets. Ammo was Federal XM193. http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee64/PhilEStake/RRAFirstDay.jpg |

You have about 4 different things going on and it looks like you are shooting pretty good in spite of them. Wolf is more reasonable priced than other choices (I will not say cheep)but isn't going to be very high on any ones list to shoot groups with. EOTechs are great close up for speedy blasting but the reticules aren't the best for finding the exact center of a target out at a distance. Flashlights, vertical grips and single point slings have their uses but if they helped shoot better groups you would see them in bullseye matches (and you don't) Fun is fun and as I said you seem to be doing well but if you want to see what your groups look like , get some regular ammo 55 or 60 gr ,take the EOTech, flashlight and foregrip off ,toss a mat or chunk of old carpet down on the ground and see what you can do. |
| Thanks for the help guys. I did not mention, the light, v. fore-grip, sling were all off for the shoot. I also just got about 500 rounds of xm855 from an ex-marine neighbor of mine. I only had the Eotech on when I took the shots. I'm actually thinking I may want to get a better long range optic instead of the Eotech. Just don't have the grand to throw at an Acog yet. |
Your shooting is way ahead of mine! I agree that Wlof MAY not be the best ammo for your rifle shooting groups. Personally I wouldn't waste my money on an ACOG. I'd get a good (not necessarily expensive) scope, find a more stable platform for shooting and maybe get a bipod. I shoot off a concrete bench with sandbags as support. I'm considering a bipod just so I can control the front sight up, down and to the side easier. |

For your first post you post this? ![]() To the OP: Sounds like you didn't sight your EOTech in prior to shooting this target. You may want to sight in the EOTech properly at 25 or 50 yards depending on your preference. Then try shooting out at 100yds. As far as using the EOTech for 100yds.. Nothing wrong with that at all. Neither is the light, or the rails. They don't help but if you use them then why take them off? My setup is as follows: RRA Entry Tactical MI BUIS MI Quad Rail EOTech 512 Pentagon X2 Light Wilderness 3 Point Sling Now this is a duty rifle so I use the light and the EOTech for work. I've considered switching out to a small magnification scope for medium distance work but for right now I'm happy with my setup. And my EOTech shoots wonders at 100yds from the prone with my favorite shooting blanket Sorry I have never seen the use for bench shooting so I never do it. |
