Can anything be done to make an ar15 trigger a little more smoother without purchasing a new trigger that can be done by myself?  It is a Bushmaster by the way...

P.S.  I used the search function, no good results.

Instead of doing it yourself you might try sending Bill Springfield a e-mail. He does excellent trigger work on stock triggers for a very reasonable cost. I have had 2 AR triggers and a CETME trigger done by him and all are excellent now. You might do a search with his name as there are several posts out there with reviews of his work.

I bet if you google "15 minute ar-15 trigger job" it will come up.  You will know you found it when you see the use of JP reduced power springs.  Use the springs, mod the hammer as per instructions.  Get the proper set screw and take the slack out of the trigger.  It's all covered in depth in the article.  It's worth the digging.  2 of my Ar's have it done and it's great and costs about 15 bucks, if you don't mess up the first time.  If you can build an AR you can do this the first time without a problem.  Go slow when fitting the trigger bar and safety engagement.

Good luck and have fun.

EDIT: Took my own advice and I could not find it.  Do not follow the directions on any sight that says to cut the hammer spring.  I will keep looking.

hello;

using the polishing material is to smooth out the trigger, right?  to make the trigger pull lighter use the spring adjustments, right?  just trying to make sure i understand what is going on.  is it safe to assume if your trigger is smooth but has a heavy trigger pull, only the trigger adjustment are needed, right?  thanks.

Is your gun new?
My Bushmaster's trigger was horrible when brand new.
I gave the trigger group some CLP, dry fired it a bazillion times and put in some quality range time.......now its perfect.
But I think I''m gonna upgrade the stock trigger and get a Timmney cause the BRD is telling me to. heh-heh

Whats wrong with cutting the hammer spring?  I have to admit I have done this mod and have not had any problems.  But I probably only have a few hundred rounds since the mod was done.

The pins start to walk themselves out and I'm sure cutting the spring does nothing for reliability.  I would use reduced power springs and a lighter hammer, if on a budget.  It could be argued that is unreliable as well.  I guess you could say a lot about modifying or replacing stock trigger components in regards to reliability.  Even some of the higher(est) priced triggers out there have failures.  Guess that is just a fact of life with machines, they will fail sometime.  I guess it comes down to what you are comfortable with.  I'm not comfortable with cutting my trigger spring for reduced pull.  Just my take on it.

dont really need the trigger lighter, just smoother..... a nice cean pull with no catches.

I am pretty good with a dremel tool in the shop, is there anywhere anythings needs to be smoothed or polished to make things run smoother?
